Waqar Hussain Malik


Dr. Waqar Hussain Malik, a PhD in Agricultural Extension and Development Sociology from Cornell University, USA, has lately been serving Pakistan Agricultural Research Council as Member Social Sciences. With a 32-year professional career working both for federal and provincial agricultural research and extension systems, Dr. Waqar Hussain Malik has served with the Ministry of Food & Agriculture; Pakistan Agricultural Research Council; Islamabad Capital Territory Administration; Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development; and Department of Agriculture, Government of Punjab. He had an opportunity to perform various assignments and projects sponsored by FAO, World Bank, Asian Development Bank and the NGOs. While he possesses a diverse and pertinent working experience with a variety of agricultural and rural development institutions, and grassroots-level farm communities, his working with Social Sciences Division in PARC for more than 15 years in various capacities enabled him to be adequately conversant with the divers functioning of the farm sector. Dr. Malik also headed the Extension Services in the Federal Capital, holding the position of Project Director of National Oilseed Development Project and spearheading the Pakistan Oilseed Development Board.

Under his leadership, the PARC social sciences research was internationalized by developing partnership with international research and development institutions including IFPRI, CIMMYT, ICARDA, ILRI, CABI, FAO, EU, and UNDP. This initiative had tremendously benefited to the PARC social scientists in terms of skill improvements and project funding support. Dr. Waqar Hussain Malik has authored two books, fifty-four research and scientific articles and participated in numerous national and international research conferences, seminars, workshops, and symposia.
